This proposal seeks to answer one of the most important clinical questions of our era: How do weight management medications such as Tirzepatide (Zepbound) or Semaglutide (Ozempic) compare against one another when used in the real world among patients living with Type 2 diabetes (T2D) who struggle with their body weight?" The study team aims to compare the weight loss achieved over 72 weeks, among patients initiating Tirzepatide against those initiating other anti-obesity medications. They will also examine patterns of body weight change after discontinuing these medications. Furthermore, they will describe patient and provider experiences prioritizing, selecting and continuing different classes of weight management medications. Results from this study will be highly useful clinically and immediately applicable to the tens of millions of Americans living today with diabetes or obesity.
Patient Partners would be expected to contribute to study planning, for example, by sharing their experiences around weight loss medications and helping to select survey outcomes that are likely to matter to patients.
